Berenice currently serves Avenue in the role of Chief Operating Officer, providing program Leadership of our Asset Building, Community Initiatives, and Resident Services programs; coordinating operational planning; leading the implementation of systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency across programs and operations; and coordinating program evaluation and reporting. Berenice joined Avenue in 2015 as Director of Asset Building Programs where she oversaw Avenue’s programming that focused on improving the financial health of Houstonians and guiding them towards homeownership. In 2017, she launched a realty line of business for Avenue’s HomeOwnership Center that connects homebuyers to qualified realtors. She and her team responded to Harvey Recovery work by carrying out Disaster Recovery Counseling, outreach into the communities hardest hit and coordinating the collaboration of various community nonprofits to bring resources to the communities. In 2018 and 2019, Berenice has grown Avenue’s lending line of business to provide more robust down payment assistance products and a home repair loan for Harvey survivors in partnership with BuildAid Houston. She has a Master’s from The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Social Work and a B.A. from Southwestern University. Berenice brings to Avenue a wealth of experience including private philanthropy, community development, project management, and business development. The focus of her work in the past 15 years has been improving the financial stability of families through education and coaching.
