Avenue, a Houston nonprofit dedicated to developing affordable homes and strengthening communities, has teamed with the YMCA of Greater Houston to bring an early childhood education facility to its upcoming Avenue Center in Near Northside.
The 30,500-square-foot Avenue Center will open at 3517 Irvington Blvd. in August as Avenue's new headquarters. Avenue will offer virtual services until in-person services can resume.
The new YMCA Children’s Academy will occupy a portion of the first floor of the center, providing resources for working families in late fall. The academy will accommodate up to 70 children from six weeks to five years old.
Financial assistance will be available to help with monthly costs.
“Our mission is to ensure all communities have access to critical resources, including education,” YMCA of Greater Houston President and CEO Stephen Ives said in an announcement. “We are honored to partner with Avenue in order to offer an early education program for families with children in the Near Northside.”
Avenue Center will also include a Legacy Community Health Clinic, homebuyer education and counseling, post-purchase and foreclosure prevention counseling, financial education through the BBVA Center for Financial Education, and space for community meetings and training classes. A grand opening is tentatively planned for early 2021.
