Avenue to Receive $100,000 Grant from Wells Fargo Foundation To Help Northline Neighborhood Preserve its History and Culture
Avenue Community Development Corporation (Avenue CDC) is pleased to announce the expansion of their community preservation and revitalization efforts into the Northline neighborhood through a $100,000 grant from Wells Fargo Foundation. The neighborhood has always been a desirable area to live, bursting with vibrant culture and history. The grant will help develop a comprehensive, resident-driven neighborhood revitalization plan that will enhance the quality of life of the hard-working families that reside in the area. The specific focus area of the grant in the neighborhood will be bounded by I-610 to the south, Tidwell Road to the north, I-45 to east and Hardy Toll Road to the west.
The grant was awarded as part of the Wells Fargo Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants Program and will support the execution of the Northline community planning process. The Neighborhood Grants Program is modeled after the Wells Fargo Regional Foundation’s nationally recognized program which has been supporting neighborhoods in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware for the past 13 years. Wells Fargo is currently piloting the program in three new cities, including Houston.
“We are very excited to expand our efforts into the Northline community,” says Mary Lawler, executive director of Avenue CDC. “Valued partners like Wells Fargo make it possible for us to work alongside of residents and help them improve their quality of life. The neighborhood is bursting with community pride and we look forward to providing them the resources to help improve their neighborhood.”
In a community ceremony on Saturday, June 11, where remarks were made by Mayor Sylvester Turner, Denise McGregor Armbrister, executive director of The Wells Fargo Regional Foundation and Daryl Montgomery, Greater Houston regional president of Wells Fargo, presented the local organization with the grant.
“Wells Fargo is pleased to support Avenue CDC as they work tirelessly to help revitalize neighborhoods such as Northline to further the success of this community for the long-term,” said Darryl Montgomery, Wells Fargo regional president for Greater Houston. “Wells Fargo’s Neighborhood Grants Program has been a catalyst for bringing together community stakeholders with common interests to improve neighborhoods and produce sustainable results that add up to making a huge difference for communities.”
