Avenue, Houston LISC join forces to provide façade improvements to Bayou Village School

Bayou Village School will reveal façade improvements to their school building on Wednesday, May 25 at 10 a.m. at 3701 Hardy Street, Houston, TX 77009 provided by Houston LISC and Avenue CDC. The façade improvements are part of a matching grant program operated by Avenue CDC for owners of buildings and businesses in Super Neighborhood 51. Through the grant, architect, Augustin Orozco, designed a welcoming and warm entrance way for students and their families. The façade improvements included removing old structures, installing new and replacement awning, canopies and signs and landscaping.

The private elementary and early education school located in the Near Northside, served 63 students in the 2015-16 school years, ages two up through 4th grade, and will be adding four additional classes in the 2016-17 school years.

"We are very excited and honored to be a part of this collaboration project with Houston LISC and Avenue CDC,” said Vanessa Beyer, enrollment director at Bayou Village School. “This opportunity allowed us to see changes to the building that reflect our mission and values of nurturing students.

“In our continued efforts to preserve and revitalize the community, we are excited to partner with Houston LISC to provide much needed improvements to Bayou Village School,” states Jenifer Wagley, deputy director of Avenue CDC. “The Near Northside has a rich history and a bright future, and we are honored to be a part of the revitalization we are seeing throughout the neighborhood.

The Near Northside is a LISC Great Opportunity (GO) Neighborhood that works to build healthy and sustainable communities. GO Neighborhoods is a community-driven approach to comprehensive community development that creates impact by strategically investing in and leveraging investments across six areas: housing and other real estate, family income and wealth, economic development, quality education, healthy environments and community leadership and engagement. Improvements to Bayou Village School are made possible by a $5,000 matching grant from Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).

“Houston LISC has a history of supporting great communities where residents can prosper,” said Amanda Timm, executive director from Houston LISC. “We are proud that our partnership with Avenue

CDC and Bayou Village School has supported improvements that reflect the spirit of community and pride for the students and the Near Northside neighborhood.”
