HOUSTON’S LARGEST SILENT AUCTION took place for the 22nd year in a row on November 1 and 3. Guests took in close to 500 pieces of art from more than 250 local artists while enjoying bites from notable Houston restaurants such as International SmokeB&B ButchersJonathan’s The RubPoitín, and the soon-to-be concepts from Bravery Chef Hall, Atlas Diner and BOH Pasta.

Ellen McClellan won first prize for her piece. Mayor Sylvester Turner was among attendees, taking a few minutes to address the crowd. In his speech, the mayor emphasized how Houston is known for its energy and medical centers, “but we also certainly have the talent to be known as the ‘Art Capital of the World,’ right here in Houston.” The night came to an end with Art on the Avenue raising a total of $250,000, which will go to enhance the quality of life of working families and to promote healthy, vibrant, and economically diverse neighborhoods.
