In 2017, the Near Northside was selected to participate in the BUILD Health Challenge, a national program that puts multi-sector community partnerships at the foundation of improving health for everyone.  In this cross-sector collaboration, Avenue, Memorial Hermann Health System, and the Houston Health Department are working together alongside Near Northside residents to identify and implement innovative solutions to health challenges specific to their community.  The partnership is taking steps to make improvements to the built environment, create safe public spaces, and promote healthy homes.
