On Saturday, February 8th, Avenue hosted a Resource Fair at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, to provide health services and free resources for families. We provided a special donation for 35 families with specials needs, senior citizens and babies. This event was a great way to share information with families and the community about healthy eating, physical activity, health services, legal services, safety resources and other local resources.
More than 20 community partners attended the event. The Consulate of Mexico provided information and free legal services, and did a presentation about the status of DACA and other immigration programs. Our Census organizer, Daniel Candelaria, did a presentation about the importance of the Census and what to expect on Census Day. Safe Walk Home Program provided a the presentation about how community members can report any issues in their community by 311, 911 or Crime Stoppers, and METRO shared information about the expansion lines in Northline.
Around 800 people attended the event, and the Houston Food Bank provided food to around 295 families on site. Avenue put together special boxes that had diapers, baby wipes, baby food, cleaning products and hygiene products for free for families in need. Families had the opportunity to visit vendor tables, and do a vision screening, and blood pressure and glucose tests for free. Children’s activities included face painting, a balloon artist and a puppet show!
We are so grateful to all the community organizations for coming together on a Saturday to bring joy and offer the community services and resources that they deserve.
