On October 12th, Avenue hosted the first Northline Fall Festival at Clark Park! It was the first weekend of the year that felt like autumn, and we had perfect weather to bring people together. Over 500 community members attended the festival, along with over 50 vendors and lots of exciting performances.
The purpose of the festival was to activate Clark Park by bringing the community together in celebration of Northline. With the help of several consulates, we brought seven performances representing different Latin American traditions for an exciting and diverse stage lineup:
Mariachis, Compania Folklorica Alegria Mexicana, Mago Kornel (Magic Show), and Frida Khalo (Character) from Mexico; Samba Dancers from Brasil; Danza Folklorica del Peru; Aldalmario (Vallenato and Corrido Norteno Singer) from Colombia; and Tambores venezolanos from Venezuela.
In addition to incredible music, dance, and artistic performances, the festival also had face painting, arts and crafts for children, and balloon art. Community partners provided free resources, and local artisans set up booths to display and sell their work. The Greater Northside Workforce Coalition set up a workforce resource section of the festival, with information on free job trainings, education opportunities for adults and children, and job opportunities.
Kids Meals provided over a hundred free snack bags for kids, and Bimbo and Bar-S provided 1,000 free hotdogs. However, the longest lines were for the popcorn, cotton candy, and the photo booth, where families could take a fall photo together.
The Northline Fall Festival would not have been possible without the support of Wells Fargo Regional Foundation, Houston LISC, Funeraria el Angel, the Consulate General of Mexico, the Consulate of Columbia, the Children’s Museum, Bimbo, Kids Meals, Bar-S and Mi Tiendita, the Houston Tool Bank, Memorial Hermann, University of Houston – Downtown and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department. Thank you to our generous sponsors and committed partners for making this magical event possible for the Northline community!
