Elder Street Artist Lofts

The original Jefferson Davis Hospital building has welcomed a cadre of new residents after being vacant for 20 years. In 2005, Avenue CDC, in partnership with Artspace Projects Inc., completed the rehabilitation of this historic structure, which is now known as Elder Street Artist Lofts.  For more information on the history of the building and the site, see Jeff Davis Hospital on the historic preservation page of our web site.

Avenue CDC negotiated the acquisition of the property from Harris County in 2002, and Avenue then formed a partnership with the Minneapolis-based Artspace to complete the renovation.  The project was financed with Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Historic Tax Credits, the City of Houston and Harris County, and philanthropic sources.

The 34 units have 32 unique floor plans and many offer 15-foot ceilings and wonderful views of downtown.
