HOMEBUYER EDUCATION SEMINARS

Avenue CDC provides homebuyer education and counseling services to assist families and individuals to purchase and maintain their own homes.

• Pre-Purchase Education and Counseling covers credit issues, preparing to qualify for a loan, and find the financing that best meets the need. Prospective buyers will learn what to look for when they shop for a home -- including the long-term savings from energy -efficient features.

• Post-Purchase Training helps homeowners adjust to their new responsibilities. Seminars cover home maintenance and repair, property taxes, insurance issues, landscaping, and more.

Homebuyer Education Certification Program

1.) A HUD free eight-hour certification course:

2.) Complete a one-on-one counseling session:

To receive a training certificate (required for many loans and grants), clients return to Avenue CDC for an individual face-to-face counseling session, or if a face-to-face session is not possible, a counseling session via telephone. Appoinments for these counseling sessions are scheduled in advance. The following documents are required:

• Copy of the first page of Income Tax Returns for the past two years
• Copy of W-2's or 1099's for the past two years
• Copy of driver's license
• Copy of last month's paystubs

3.) Provide a copy of HUD-1 Closing Document to Avenue CDC

Upon closing on a home, all clients should fax or mail a copy of the HUD-1 Settlement Statement to Avenue CDC (to assist us in reporting to our funders). Fax the statement to (713) 864-0027, or use the Avenue CDC self addressed envelope provided.

4.) Take two hour post purchase class:

Classes are held on Thursdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm:
